Film ten to intelektualny wywód dotyczący fundamentalnej kwestii etycznej: miejsca i roli zła w życiu człowieka. Celem zaznaczenia filozoficznej i teologicznej tematyki produkcji, Zanussi osadza fabułę w nieokreślonej czasoprzestrzeni. Widzowi przekazuje jedynie, iż rzecz ma miejsce w pewnym państwie europejskim, tuż na początku XX wieku. Protagonistą „Paradygmatu” jest Hubert, młody student teologii. Wierzy on, że człowiek jest stworzeniem z natury dobrym, zdolnym całkowicie zapanować nad grzesznymi skłonnościami, jedynie przy pomocy Bożej łaski.

Film is an intellectual argument of a fundamental ethical issue: the place and role of evil in human’s life. To underline the philosophical and theological theme of production, Zanussi set the plot in a indeterminate time and space. The only information given to the viewer is, that the action takes place in a European country, just at the beginning of the twentieth century. Protagonist of “Paradigma” is Hubert, a young student of theology. He believes that man is a creature good of nature, able to completely control the sinful inclinations only with the help of God’s grace.


KRZYSZTOF ZANUSSI jest jednym z najsławniejszych polskich reżyserów. Urodził się w 1939 r. w Warszawie, studiował fizykę i filozofię, po czym ukończył reżyserię w łódzkiej szkole filmowej. Jako reżyser zadebiutował w 1966 r. i od tego momentu jego filmy zdobyły wiele nagród. Pracował również jako wykładowca, scenarzysta, reżyser teatralny i producent. Jego refleksyjne filmy niemal zawsze podejmują tematykę moralną.

KRZYSZTOF ZANUSSI is one of the most famous polish directors. He was born in 1939, in Warsaw. He studied physics and philosophy and after that he graduated a direction at the film school in Lódź. As a director he made his debut in 1966 and since then he has won a lot of awards. He also was working as a university lecturer, screenwriter, theater director and producer. His reflective movies mostly tells about morality.
